Consultations
PHONE: This is a 15-minute free call to discuss the presenting concerns and to make recommendations on the next step. Referrals may also be made to other treatment providers.
IN PERSON: This 1-hour meeting allows parents to come in and discuss concerns in person. They are encouraged to bring in any previous evaluations, report cards, documentation, etc, to be reviewed. Some recommendations can be made regarding the right school setting, and possible courses of treatment depending on the extent of the documentation. Please note that this consultation involves a fee that will be credited to your balance should you opt to proceed with testing.
Neuropsychological Evaluations (3 YEARS AND UP)
This includes all the above assessments, as well as an in-depth measure of neurocognitive functioning, including but not limited to: attention and executive function, receptive and expressive vocabulary, auditory processing, visual perception, fluid reasoning, sensorimotor, and memory. Comprehensive interviews and rating scales with teachers and parents and more detailed emotional and personality assessment are also included. This is ideal when a highly prescriptive remediation plan is desired as it surveys all the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral variables that are needed for a child to function. It is much easier to identify what the true strengths and weaknesses are, and to develop the most accurate remediation plan with this option. This includes 6 hours or more testing with the child, as well as a 2-hour meeting. In addition, if needed the psychologist will be present at school meetings, work with the family to find appropriate treatment providers, and update testing at no further cost up to 1 year.
Psychoeducational Evaluations (6 YEARS AND UP)
This includes IQ and achievement measures, a psychosocial history, and behavioral rating scales completed by teachers and parents, as well as a survey of the specific skill areas associated with learning. Brief measures of emotional/personality functioning may be included in order to determine if these variables may be contaminating the learning process. This is also a good option for a child who has already had a previous evaluation done and just needs an update. It includes 4 to 5 hours of testing with the child, and a 1 hour meeting.
Intelligence/Gifted Testing
This is of value only in determining “giftedness” or “intellectual delay”. Depending on the outcome more comprehensive testing may be needed.
ADHD Screenings
This includes a visual and an auditory attention test, as well as a parent and teacher rating scales. The meeting with the child is typically 45 minutes to 1 hour. It also includes a 30-minute meeting to discuss the findings. No diagnosis is provided for this screening as this is to determine whether further evaluation is needed.
ADHD/Academic Screenings
This includes a typical ADHD Screening (see above) as well as the Woodcock Johnson Achievement test. The meeting with the child is 90 minutes. It also includes a 30-minute meeting with parents to discuss the findings. This additional measure will identify if there may be any learning challenges as well. No diagnosis is provided for this screening as this is to determine whether further evaluation is needed.
Autism Screenings
This includes the administration of the ADOS-2, NEPSY-2, and rating scales including but not limited to the SRS-2, and CARS-2. The meeting with the child ranges from 1 to 2 hours, and 1 hour follow up meeting. No diagnosis is provided for this screening as this is to determine whether further evaluation is needed.
Developmental Evaluations
This includes a survey of language, motor, and visual systems development, as well as early social and interpersonal skills. This ranges from 3 to 4 hours and includes a 1 hour follow up meeting.
If a decision is made to do a full evaluation within 3 months of screening or consult, the cost will be reduced based on what has already been paid. Please note that screenings will not offer any diagnoses. They can indicate if a true concern exists and limited recommendations will be provided based on those findings (e.g. behavior therapy, referral to doctor for possible medication, tutoring). Without a clear understanding of all other cognitive factors, we cannot recommend specific tutoring or treatment, or formally diagnose a child.
